Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is the provision of guidance and support to therapists who are already practicing or who are preparing for licensure, having completed their graduate training. Supervision can help clinicians gain insight into how they work and offers opportunities to fine-tune case conceptualization and treatment. Supervision can help to promote ethical practice and prevent burnout so clinicians can do their best work. This is achieved through a combination of dialogue and direct clinical observation (in person or via telehealth).

I am an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy-approved supervisor. This means that I have undergone two years of specialized training, which included supervising graduate trainees under supervision. Also, because I have practiced for a minimum of five years, I can supervise conditionally licensed and fully licensed clinicians (marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, clinical professional counselors, and pastoral counselors) who reside in Maine or New York.

During supervision, trainees and licensed clinicians can expect to learn:

  • new ways to manage their case load and documentation;

  • new angles on case conceptualization;

  • new skills and techniques; and

  • new self-care strategies

Supervision can be arranged remotely or in-person. For in-person, trainees will be expected to engage in cases as co-therapist, schedule permitting and with client consent. Remote supervisees will need to provide access to their sessions with client permission or tune in to sessions through the Center.

To make arrangements for supervision, please call to schedule a free 30-minute consultation (in-person or remote). During this initial meeting, we will discuss your educational/professional trajectory as well as your supervisory needs and expectations. You will also learn about my approach to supervision and expectations.

If it is mutually agreed that we are a good fit, a second meeting will be scheduled so we can develop a supervisory contract. This second meeting will last one hour and will cost $70.

Regular supervision meetings typically last two hours. This includes one hour of clinical work followed by one hour of case review. Supervision, which usually occurs twice per month, is charged at an hourly rate of $70/hour.
